At The Authentic Food Company, Corporate Social Responsibility is an integral part of our philosophy and we ensure that the company makes a contribution to society as a whole and the environment.
We are working to contribute to the government’s environmental objectives, such as reducing carbon emissions by 20% by 2010, reduce water use by 10-15% by 2010 and significantly reduce the environmental and social costs of domestic food transportation by 2012.
We want to ensure that we are seen as a business that conducts an ethical and moral practice, and we have set out some internal and external objectives, which we hope will contribute towards the environment.
We aim to:
- Reduce the amount of carbon emissions we emit
- Increase the percentage of materials being recycled
- Implement staff energy awareness training
Externally we hope to:
- Ensure that 10% of our workforce is involved in charity work

- Reduce damage done to the local community and generate ways to ‘give something back.’

"Change Tomorrow Today" We have launched an internal environmental awareness campaign this month and our slogan for this is ‘Change tomorrow today’.
A mascot has been designed in the form of Mr. Green and he is visible around the business to remind staff about energy efficiency procedures.
We take all aspects of the business into consideration and try to take direct flights where possible, fill vans to maximise petrol usage, use compact fluorescent light bulbs, turn off office equipment overnight, eliminate unnecessary packaging and even keep plants in the office to help remove carbon from the atmosphere and filter the air.
Why not use our ten ways to get green?
Ten Things To Do To Get Green
We can all do our bit at home and work to be more energy efficient. You, along with businesses, scientists and governments, can help to create paths to cut carbon emissions. Here is our guide to some of the best planet-saving initiatives!
Think before you print
Help cut carbon and save the trees! Do you really need to print that sheet or can you read off your screen? Meeting agendas - can these be displayed on the screen rather than individual copies? Printing double sided.
Think before you drop
Recycle! Is your rubbish going in the right bin? We have introduced new labelled bins at AFC to help you recycle.
Turn off
Have you turned the lights off?
Checked you haven’t left the photocopier on?
Switched off your laptops and desktops?
Unplug
When you are not using your electronic devices, unplug them! Even when turned off, things like chargers and computers use energy.
Be vigilant
Be attentive and keep an eye out for any action that may be causing harm to the environment and let one of the Energy Champions know.
Reuse
Why not reuse your coffee/water cup?
Be creative - use your scrap paper as a new pad.
Communicate & Inform
Do you know something green your colleagues don’t? Spread the Green Word! Tell them!
Reduce
Reduce the number of miles you drive by walking, cycling, taking turns to get in to work with a colleague. Avoiding just 10 miles of driving every week would eliminate about 500 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions a year!
Heating
Is your window open? Is your heating on? Don’t forget to switch it off! Did you switch off the air conditioning before leaving?
Stay Cool
Minimise the amount of time that refrigerators are left open to help reduce AFC’s carbon emissions!
