On Thursday 27th October six of Authentics employees volunteered to go to Lyme Park and help cut back the Rhododendrons.
At Lyme Park they have many problems with rhododendrons as they are an invasive plant specie that leaches the soil of its nutrients, this leads to other plants being unable to grow as they are competing for light. If the rhododendrons are left unchecked, they will overtake many fertile woodland areas and encroach upon health and moorland. Volunteers cut back the rhododendrons, sawed branches and burnt the debris.
Luckily they had great weather, the day involved chopping down the rododendron which you can see from the pictures is a difficult job! They then had to collect it all together and burn them.
Sandra, Shermith, Parminder, Graeme, Ann and Nik all attended, there were a few stories from the day with Parminder and Ann as the chief firestarters.
